Review: 101 Cataclysms by Rachael Hale

Following in the paw prints of 101 Salivations, Rachael Hales 101 Cataclysms is a charming and playful tribute to the worlds most popular pet. Celebrated animal portraitist Rachael Hale brings us the next installment in her adorable pet book repertoire with 101 Cataclysms: For the Love of Cats. This collection features 101 images of magnificent felines. Hales special rapport with animals has allowed her to capture the essence of her subjects. You will see it in the bald-faced cheekiness of Hilander, the sphynx; in the sassiness of Puffy, the Persian ball of fluff; and in the playfulness of Yabba Dabba Doo, the British shorthair.

This was an absolutely adorable book! The pictures were beautiful and the appendix describing the photography sessions subject by subject was a nice surprise.

My favorites were Maximus (7), Merlin (40), Jezita (65) - she reminded me of Zooey Deschanel with those big eyes!, and Hilander (79) with his little scarf! I also loved how she mentioned in the appendix that Charlie (97) kept bringing his favorite toy onto the set - a large wooden spoon! Now how cute is that? A giant spoon! Adorable! I wish we'd seen a picture of him and his spoon!

This one gets eight stars. It was a super fast "read" as it was almost entirely pictures. The photographs were beautifully done, and you could tell that the author actually likes cats, which comes across in the photos.

Rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆
