Post a Picture of Your Bookshelf

J. Kaye had a post entitled Post a Picture of Your Bookshelf, and I simply had to do mine too.

After seeing other people's shelves I feel like I have so few books! But, keep in mind that I don't keep my books after I read them. Seriously, I have one encyclopedia of gardening book, one Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving, and one copy of Food Drying with an Attitude (not shown) that I keep permanently. Well, that and my two cookbooks (Martha Stewart's Entertaining and a 1960s edition of Betty Crocker cookbook that is bright orange). Everything else gets read and passed on either by trading (via Book Mooch or Paperback Swap), or donating to the library, or sending to a friend abroad. I just don't keep books. Ever. I figure my local library is just one giant TBR waiting for me!

In any case, here are my pics:

This little stack is on top of my bookshelf and has the books that I will read eventually. I started Fingerprints of the Gods, but have yet to finish.

This is the top half of my bookshelf - which is only 2 feet wide. The top left is my pending library audiobooks - waiting to be listened to and returned. The bottom left side is my three books that I need to read and pass on to a friend or fellow trader, along with the dust jackets from my hardcovers which I remove while I'm reading. The two shelves on the right are my pending review books in no particular order. The notebook and yellow pages on the right hand side are my book review forms and notebook for writing random notes while reading. The black bump on the outside of the bookcase is one set (of many) earbuds for my iPod. As I discover them floating around I put them back on the hook on the side of my bookcase so I can find them when I need them.

This is the bottom half of the bookshelf. The top left shelf is my two current library books (I usually have more), along with my drawers for post-its, pens, bookmarks, etc. The candle on top is a LED one run on batteries. On the bottom left is my notepad pile. I keep notepads there in case I think of something while I'm reading. The upper right is my lovely drink shelf where I keep my giant McDonald's unsweetened iced tea while I'm reading. The bottom right is my stack of review forms from finished books that need to be written up into review posts. That's also where new book arrivals go until I do their New Book Arrival posts.

So glad I am not the only one. I often wonder what my library thinks when they see my big bag of books. ;) I don't know if they are happy or!

This is why I am moving towards ebooks. I don't have to worry about what happens with them after I read them. Read, review and delete. So!

Wow! Beth! I'm in awe! You are so organized! I'm also impressed that you don't hold onto the books you read. As a sufferer of packrat-itis, I can only wish.

Did you create the review form yourself or get it online? I'd love to get a copy, if you would not mind. I'm sure it makes reviewing books so much easier.

Anyway, thanks for sharing.

I was so excited when I saw the tea cup from McDonalds then I saw that it said UNSWEETENED! Who are you!

Just kidding, I am a sweetened tea girl, and that leaves more for me. :) I can't believe you have that few books though, how do you manage?

I found you on J-Kaye's blog and thought I would stop over and share with you my shelves!

J. Kaye - I know! I try to sneak in a few here and there, almost when they're not looking, but when I show up with a shopping bag they give me that look and I wonder too! :) I totally have to go digital and get a Kindle or some other reader. Ah, to fit my entire library in my purse! :)

Mary - I think the organization is an illusion! :) I created the review form myself. It's more of a reminder of what lists I need to add things to and such. Shoot me an e-mail at BethsBookReviewBlog AT gmail DOT com and I'll send you the file. :)

Tami - LOL! I swear, the tea makers at my McDonalds are sugar syrup happy and hence the unsweetened. :) I feel myself getting hives if I get too many books in my TBR. It's just one of those things. I think of my public library as a giant TBR so I don't need much at home. :) Hopping over to check out your post now. Thanks!
