Featured Book: The Light Within Our Shadowed Minds by Bear

The Light Within Our Shadowed MindsThe Light within Our Shadowed Minds celebrates the thoughts, memories and experiences of a simple man who has had to learn how to survive a complex life. As a child, through the window in his room, Bear saw a world of color and life, and the books on his shelf became doorways through which he could go to dream. Then came endless nights filled with shadows. After stumbling through a rebirth, Bear discovered he, too, had something to say. He realized he had come full circle. He could now give – through prose and poems that are doorways to a dream – what he himself had always wanted to receive. May you enjoy the tale of Bear’s journey to find the light.

About the author:

Bear is an ordinary and a simple man who has worked and has strived, sometimes easily, sometimes not. Along the way he discovered he had something to say. One poem led to another. One idea and memory followed another. The Light within Our Shadowed Minds is his fifty-five year long witness of life: weird, sad, happy, but always eye opening.

Guest Post: Nick Redfern author of Exposed, Uncovered & Declassified: UFOs and Aliens: Is There Anybody Out There?

Nick Redfern, author of the book Exposed, Uncovered & Declassified: UFOs and Aliens: Is There Anybody Out There?, stopped by to share with us a summary of his chapter in the book.

The Kingman Affair: A Strange Tale of a Crashed UFO,
a Dead Alien, Flying Monkeys, Enigmas, Lies, and Truths

Within the realm of UFO research, and even within the media and the general populace, there are very few people who have not heard of the so-called Roswell Incident. It is a strange and sensational saga of conspiracy and duplicity that suggests that nothing less than an alien spacecraft, complete with crew, catastrophically crashed on a remote ranch in the New Mexico desert during the summer of 1947.

As of this writing, the Air Force’s official position on Roswell is that the affair can be explained in wholly conventional and down-to-earth terms: The unusual wreckage found at the crash site, says the military, originated with a secret high-altitude balloon project, called Project Mogul, which was designed to monitor early Soviet atomic bomb tests. As for the strange bodies found at the scene, according to the Air Force they were nothing stranger than some crash-test dummies that had been used in military parachute experiments.

Needless to say, die-hard UFO researchers scoff at such assertions and accuse the U.S. government of engaging in a cover-up of X-Files proportions in order to hide the decidedly extraterrestrial truth. Roswell is not alone in this. Indeed, there are far more than a few reports that suggest aliens may have visited the earth, only to fatally crash and burn.

One such event is alleged to have occurred in May 1953 in a desert locale on the fringes of the town of Kingman, Arizona. The Kingman case is a truly unique one that contains a near-infinite number of curious plot lines and countless characters—some named and speaking on the record, and others wholly anonymous and Deep Throat–like in nature. Numerous twists and turns abound.

Highlights of this incredible story include: (A) the crash-and-recovery of a spacecraft from another world, as well as the discovery and autopsy of its solitary alien crew-member; (B) secret attempts by the U.S. Government to understand and duplicate the extraterrestrial technology that quite literally fell into its hands; (C) data on the reputed location where the Kingman wreckage is said to be held now; and (D) intriguing theories suggesting the UFO crash legend may have been an ingenious cover-story to hide the crash of a U.S. military vehicle engaged in Top Secret experimentation.

From the heart of the Pentagon to the harsh deserts of Arizona, the story of the Kingman UFO is one of truly out-of-this-world proportions.

Guest Post: John White author of Exposed, Uncovered & Declassified: UFOs and Aliens: Is There Anybody Out There?

John White, author of the book Exposed, Uncovered & Declassified: UFOs and Aliens: Is There Anybody Out There?, stopped by to share with us a summary of his chapter in the book.

The UFO Problem—In Search Of Grand Unified Theory

White looks comprehensively at the UFO phenomenon and discusses the entire range of theories and supporting data offered to explain UFOs.

"No single explanation can cover the whole subject," White says.  "The phenomenon is real and has many aspects to it covering many levels of reality." He concludes that the UFO experience has both a physical and a metaphysical dimension.

UFOs involve the human mind and psychic/paranormal phenomena, he says.  He cites evidence to show that some aspects of the UFO experience come from "inner space" as well as outer space in a strange mixture which calls into question our conventional concepts of space, time and consciousness.

Excerpt: The Playful and Powerful Warrior within YOU! by GJ Reynolds

GJ Reynolds, author of the book The Playful and Powerful Warrior within YOU!, stopped by to share an excerpt from his book.

PREFACE

Come, be open and embrace your magnificence. Play through any fears and reclaim your personal power. No experience necessary.

Why did I write this book? I wrote this book because first, the grace of God showed me how I could trans- form my life and the lives of others. Second, most of the people I come in contact with are searching for some type of transformation in their very own lives, and what has worked for me may very well work for them. Third, the steps laid out in this book are what have transformed my life as a Playful and Powerful Warrior, and I have chosen to share them with the world.

In 1972, I met Coach Dale Brown, former LSU basketball coach, National Coach of the Year, and Hall of Fame coach. I was just eleven years old. Throughout my life, he shared many philosophies on basketball as well as on life. All of his teachings have had a major impact on the man I am today. He has been a coach, teacher, and mentor. Most importantly, he is one of my closest friends. Because of his mentorship and friendship, many of the principles he has taught me are in this book. Just like Coach, I have chosen to share my knowledge and experiences.

In November 1973, Coach Dale Brown invited coaches John Wooden and Adolph Rupp to the LSU Purple and Gold kickoff game. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting John Wooden, former UCLA basketball coach (named the Greatest Coach of the 20th Century by ESPN) as well as mentor and friend of Coach Brown; Hall of Fame coach Adolph Rupp, the former basketball coach at Kentucky; and Bob Pettit, the two-time All-American at LSU, who was later inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame.

At that game, Coach Wooden patted me on the head and said, “You look like a fine young man. Just practice the fundamentals and you will go far.” Coach Rupp patted me on the head as well and said, “Just do what he [Coach Wooden] said and you will do just fine.” Bob Petit then said, “Young man, what they said is the best advice I can give you. Just do what they said.” Thanks to all three of you, I realize that when my life is balanced and in order, I am practicing the fundamentals of life.

After meeting Coach Wooden in 1973, I was introduced to him again in 2007 by Coach Brown. Then, in 2008, I had the distinct pleasure of fulfilling one of my most desired goals: to spend an afternoon with Coach Wooden.

I have read and listened to everything Coach Wooden has writ- ten and taught. This piece he wrote stays with me: “Everything in the world is passed down. Every piece of knowledge is some- thing that has been shared by someone else. If you understand it as I do, mentoring becomes your true legacy. It is the greatest inheritance you can give to others. It is why you get up every day: to teach and be taught.”

Thank you, Coach, for sharing. It has become my passion and my purpose to help millions of people transform their lives. Consequently, this is a primary reason I have written this book: to assist others in reclaiming their personal power and be the playful and powerful Warriors they are. Most are closer to having all of their goals, dreams, and aspirations than they realize. They just require a little assistance and the willingness to do so.

I wrote this book to be used as a beginning tool with the potential to evoke lasting life changes in anyone who reads it. I choose to teach the reader how to embrace his or her inner playful and powerful Warrior self and live a fulfilling life of true Warrior adventure.

Need a little help?

I was the guy who had a great amount of agony and pure anguish prior to writing anything. The internal anguish was so great that I never wanted to write anything. Now I choose to write. I have also learned to love to write.

About fifteen years ago, I told John McNaught, my business partner at the time, “If you could just get paid to write all day, you would be right at home and the happiest man I know.” What I meant by that statement was that John loved to write and had written many great documents. He was always at peace when writing anything.

I was just the opposite. I was good at adding my input to what he wrote. That was about it.

What changed? Today, I consider myself a student, teacher, and coach. A student who loves to learn. A teacher who loves to share information and teach others. A coach who loves to assist others to have and achieve their desires with purpose. I simply draw from my own life experiences, education, and lessons. Writing is one of the ways for me to gather my thoughts and choose to share them with others.

The more I share with others, the more I find it empowering. I find it a keen sense of fulfillment. So now I write. I find writing peaceful and relaxing. I have now found that same peace about writing I would always see within John. I find it amusing that I am now a writer and author.

Others have considered me to be focused, intense, direct, strong, and powerful. Only my closest friends, family, and associates ever saw my playful side. Everyone saw my powerful side. I was typi- cally the one who would lead, especially when things were tough. I outwardly portrayed my inner strength. It was a false strength, my ego. I learned that true power comes from the inside for strength and flow. I will cover more of this throughout the book.

Coach Dale Brown shared with me three key things when I was younger:

  1. Always try to do your best.
  2. Never give up.
  3. Let God take care of the rest.
These three simple teachings have helped me transform into the man I am today. They assisted in saving my life when I was suffer- ing from depression and was suicidal. These teachings have also become a catalyst for this book.

In May 2007, I was with Coach Dale Brown in Lawrence, Kansas. We were walking outside of Allen Field House (where the University of Kansas Jayhawks play basketball) and Coach asked me, “When you came out of depression and from being suicidal, outside of God, what was the major thing that made an impact on you?” I replied, “Coach, just getting around the right people.” From that moment, I started adding to Coach’s teachings this statement: “Get around the right people.”

I have always been a consistent goal setter, and I have encouraged people always to have “Big, big goals, dreams, and aspirations.” I have said on many occasions, “If you are going to shoot for some- thing, shoot for something big. You just might receive it.” I added “Big, big goals, dreams, and aspirations” to Coach’s teachings and started teaching this as well.

During this time, I was seeking how to live and enjoy my true, authen- tic self. This led to me sharing “Be authentic; live authentically.”

From there, I was also learning how to accept and enjoy living in “the now.” I had always done a great job of living in the future. I was great at putting off enjoying “the now” for the enjoyment I thought I would have later. I was great at living a life with delayed gratification. I realized I am able to live right here and right now.

Since I am able to live only right now, I have started to be con- scious of being and living in the moment. I have started to see a new and empowering life for myself and have begun sharing “Live in the now” as well.

When you open yourself to the development of your inner Warrior self, concrete change is destined to occur.

Then, one weekend in the spring of 2008, I went to a “Warrior” weekend. One of the exercises was to listen to the instructor describe a beautiful and tranquil setting. He described a young and happy boy playing. Then he said, “You are this young boy. He is playing with a ball and the ball bounces over to an animal. What animal is it? What do you see? What do you feel?”

For me, it was a playful and powerful tiger. The tiger was interacting with me, and together we were having fun. I felt the security of the tiger, and I felt the strength and power of the tiger, too. I was at peace, and I could feel the love I had with the tiger. Tranquility illuminated within me, and it was a loving and magnificent feeling.

Then the instructor said, “You are both: the boy and the tiger. You are one and you are the same.” I realized right then and there that I am a playful and powerful tiger. I am a playful and powerful Warrior.

Hence, this is how the title of this book came to be. What I will teach you here is all about reclaiming the playful and powerful Warrior within YOU. It is finding, maintaining, and living with your loving, tranquil, peaceful, playful, powerful, and magnificent self.

This book is a direct result of the following:

  • Having great teachers, coaches, and mentors.
  • Having experienced some fun, some challenging, and some very difficult times.
  • Having Coach Brown ask me one simple question.
I trust each one of you who reads this book will find something useful, and then apply it and pay it forward. Now go and embrace YOUR playful and powerful Warrior within YOU!

Be playful, be powerful, and live your life to the fullest.

Q&A: GJ Reynolds author of The Playful and Powerful Warrior within YOU!

GJ Reynolds, author of the book The Playful and Powerful Warrior within YOU!, stopped by for a Q&A.

Q. Before you were an author, you’ve been an entrepreneur. What kind of businesses have you been involved with?

A. I initially started in Real Estate and failed miserably. Then I went back to what I knew, Telecommunications. I transitioned out telecommunications because of how the industry was changing. From there I have had several companies in Sales & Marketing and Business Consulting. Beachlifestyle started in 1992, specializes in assisting like minded individuals who desire to be an entrepreneur or are currently an entrepreneur to become more successful. We teach basic success laws and principles.

I currently have three entrepreneurial companies now, Visalus Sciences/BodyByVi 90 Day Challenge, specializing in weight management and health and wellness; Beachlifestyle Publishing, specializing in publishing books, training materials and empowering stories & films; Beachlifestyle, a community of like minded individuals educating them on how to enhance or transform their Life, Health and Prosperity. I also continue to write. I have a series titled “The Lil Hammer”, based on a “little engine that could” type of character. I have already started my next book focusing on having, running and being successful as an entrepreneurial home based business owner. The working title is “The Playful & Powerful Warrior Entrepreneur!”

Q. Tell us about your book, The Playful and Powerful Warrior within YOU!

A.
The book is based off what has worked for me over the past ten years. From being in depression and suicidal to living an empowering balanced life.    I provide my personal insights to each of the areas that I have experienced and have personally worked for me. It is written so the reader is able to reclaim their personal power and be the playful and powerful Warrior they are.

Q. What motivated you to write the book?

A. I wrote this book because first, the grace of God showed me how I could transform my life and the lives of others. Second, the steps laid out in this book are what have transformed my life as a Playful and Powerful Warrior, and I have chosen to share them with the world. Third, most of the people I come in contact with, are searching for some type of transformation in their very own life and what has worked for me, may very well work for them.

I have encountered so many people as an entrepreneur that have or are experiencing many of the things I have experienced. In most cases what they are experiencing is holding them back from having their own personal magnificence and having their business perform at it’s optimum performance. I realized my story had merits and many people could identify with it. Once I started sharing my story many people started to embrace much of what worked for me into their own life, so I decided to write a book so I could touch more lives in a positive way.

Q. You had great business and material success and ended up being depressed. What was the turning point?

A.
After a business ended, I just seemed unable to get anything going and my whole life started unraveling. The more I focused on the material items, the more difficult my life became. My personal relationships, family and friends became secondary. I even became last on my very own list. Over about a year everything started to fall apart and I found myself in a position of feeling overwhelmed with life. It was the first time in my life I found myself in that situation.

Q. What did you feel needed to change in your life?

A.
I had to get back to the basics. I had to start looking within versus looking outside to the external world. I had to start focusing on me internally and realizing my ego was keeping me from embracing my own magnificence.    Once I started doing this, my life began to come into focus and be more peaceful, full and balanced.

Q. Historically, the word “warrior” has strong negative connotations associated with it. What’s changed? How is being a warrior today seen as a positive quality?

A.
By referencing the core meaning of Warrior, all the way back to the Chinese characters known as Kanji, which is used in the modern Japanese writing system. The meaning is “Keeper of Peace”.
Today’s Warrior is a keeper of peace and person who is focused on being and living with peace. Where there is peace, there is love.

Q. Briefly tell us about the set-up of the book. What does it cover?

A.
This book is a powerful tool with the potential to evoke lasting life changes in the individual who reads it. The deeper you get into this book you will vividly see a clear view of who you are and how to embrace your powers and lighten up the load of negativity that might be leading to your anxiety. It also provides the reader the incentive to discover the true purpose of their life.

Readers are encouraged to find their own inner warrior by reclaiming their personal power and pursuing an authentic life. In doing so, we get much closer to realizing all of our goals. The book provides the tools that are necessary to live a meaningful life “on purpose, with purpose and for purpose” which include: Put God First, Forgive Yourself, Live in the Now, Surround Yourself with the Right People, Be Playful and Find Your Purpose. Learn how to embrace your inner playful and powerful Warrior self and to live a fulfilling life of true adventure!

Q. What drives you to share this information with people?

A. One of my primary passions and gifts are to teach others. It is was one of the things I enjoy the most. I have learned that my personal experiences both good and bad have impact with people. I know it is one of my reasons for living is to share what I have learned with others. My personal vision is to impact millions of people’s lives world wide.

Q. How does a strong belief in God and a belief in the Law of Attraction go together?

A.
What the appropriate question is, “Where does the Law of Attraction fit in with God?” The answer is quite simple and profound. God has given us the Law of Attraction through his word. Many people believe the Law of Attraction is “New Age” or something new. This law has been around since the beginning of creation. As I began to understand that God is the supreme creator that abides by this same law, He has power over the law and lives in complete perfection of it. Because it is a perfect law, designed perfectly to support us in our experience of learning through our life here on earth.

God created the universe and the universe works by laws. The Law of Attraction or what is also called, the Law of Creation is in operation in every sphere of the universe. We are all living beings of the planet earth that is within the universe. This makes us subject to this perfect law.

God created us out of an immense joy in the act of creation and gave us “free will” to then, with joy, watch us create for ourselves the lives we have chosen, both consciously and unconsciously. Along this journey, He has given us teachers and angels to help and protect us along the way. God created the Law of Attraction!

Q. Explain the influence Coach Dale Brown, former LSU Basketball Coach, National Coach of the Year, and Hall of Fame Coach has played in your life.

A. I had the great pleasure of meeting “Coach” when I was just eleven years old. Throughout my life, he has shared many philosophies on basketball and on life. All of his teachings had a major impact on the man I am today! He has been a coach, teacher, mentor, and most importantly, has become one of my closest friends! Many of the principles he has taught me are in this book. Just like Coach, I have chosen to share my knowledge and experiences.

Coach Brown introduced me to Coach John Wooden.

Q. You once had depression as well as suicidal thoughts. What do you say to someone who might be in that same position?

A.
I would say that no matter how much pain they are feeling or how much they may feel overwhelmed, they can still find the peace and magnificence they are most likely seeking. I say together we are able to get through it. I would also say that where they are, regardless how bad it may seem, there is a powerful learning experience and it is simply a new starting point to move forward and upward.

Q. In the book, you discuss the importance of “living in the now”. How do you stay present-minded and not worry about the future?

A.
As I share in the book, “living in the now” has been the hardest area for me. I still find it challenging at times. What I learned that works for me are several things; to remember all I control are my thoughts, words and actions; to remember I have this very moment. Future moments are not guaranteed. With that said I might as well make the most of the present moment. When I focus on this, I am able to simply live now and understand whatever happens in the future is a gift.

Q. Talk about the power of forgiveness and why this is so hard for people to grant?

A.
Forgiveness is an internal matter. It is the experience of finding peace within yourself! When you choose to forgive, you are forgiving yourself. It is something you do for yourself! The spiritual purpose of forgiveness is self-healing, and it is a gift to yourself. Forgiveness is healing for you! The healing is letting go of fear and negative, hurtful thoughts from the past. Forgiveness is a shifting of attention away from the hurtful act.

There are several common forgiveness misconceptions:

  1. Forgiveness has to be something you give to someone else.
  2. Something must be deserved or earned, and sometimes must be withheld, from the one who has done something wrong to you.
  3. It depends on whether the person who did you wrong or treated you badly apologizes or changes his or her ways.
  4. Forgiveness often seems so difficult because it seems like a sacrifice, like giving in, giving up, or losing your rightness. It seems to discount the pain you feel.
  5. Forgiveness is sometimes experienced as letting someone who hurt you off the hook and no longer holding them accountable for their actions.
  6. Forgiving the “offense” means you condone it. In fact, you are only forgiving what you know to be wrong for you—having to reconcile with someone who did you wrong or treated you badly. Telling someone you forgive them is simply a bonus!

Q. You strongly believe in keeping a “playful” side in every aspect of your life, including business. Describe what you mean by that.

A.
We all have a playful side inside of us. Imagine how you feel when you are being playful. As you step out of childhood and mature into adulthood, playfulness typically becomes a foreign concept. I learned I was more productive when I accepted and embraced my playful side. When I was easy-going, my business teams and associates had more fun and were more productive, too. More importantly, in these moments I was at peace with myself. You will find that your playfulness creates positive energy and smiles for you and those around you, at home and at work. Playfulness brings out the fun in everyone. In a world where stress and anxiety is commonplace, a little playfulness is a perfect solution.

Q. What is conscious language and why is it so important in creating success?

A.
The definition of conscious is “to be aware.” The basic idea of conscious language is to be aware of what you are thinking and saying. It is about using your language to claim or connect with what you actually choose to have.

Your conscious language awareness will strengthen your under- standing of the power of your words, allowing you to experience the changes in your body when you speak in a way that honors the fullness of your whole self. Consciously chosen thoughts and words will transform your circumstances and support your actions and the creation of the life you choose.

Q. What has been some of your biggest investments in your own life?

A. Accepting God to guide my life. Going to Anger Management. Surrounding myself with the right people for me.

Q. Describe success. What makes a person truly successful?

A. Coach John Wooden said it best: Success is peace of mind that can be obtained from the self-satisfaction of knowing that I have made the effort to do the very best of which I am capable.

Q. What do people need to know about leaving a legacy?

A.
Leaving a legacy is an act of responsibility. Living a life with your purpose is the best way to leave a positive and powerful legacy. When you start with the end in mind, you have a personal direction to guide all of your activities. Beginning with the end in mind is choosing control of your own life and giving meaning to the actions you choose every day.

Q. Tell us about Mission G

A.
Mission G is an organization created to assist others to enhance their Life, health and Prosperity. Mission G focuses on uniting talented and passionate leaders around a worthwhile cause of enriching people’s lives.

Mission G focuses on underprivileged children with education and health. Mission G also works with a Feed The Children program. An initiative that provides nutritional meals to under- privileged children. Mission G also assists Project NOW (Nuturing of Our Warriors) with former military personnel with the transition from active duty to being and living productive lives as a civilian.

Ten percent of every book sale will be donated to Mission G.

Q. What is your best advice for someone looking to choose a new opportunity in his or her life?

A.
Find a mentor and surround your self with the right people. Being around the right people has a major impact on who we are, what we do, and how we live within the external world. You know when you are around the right people for you. You also know when you are around the wrong people. These people simply share different views and values.

Our lives are shaped and influenced by a myriad of factors. Relationships are at the top of the list. Think about how much of “who you are today” has been influenced by a specific parent, sibling, relative, teacher, coach, neighbor, associate, celebrity, athlete, author, speaker, boss, co-worker, spouse, or friend. Values, habits, behavior, knowledge, skills, passions, hobbies, tastes, and attitudes are typically learned through association with others.

Guest Post: Eric Best author of Into My Father's Wake

Eric Best, author of the book Into My Father's Wake, stopped by to share with us a piece he wrote.

Hillary Clinton Has the Right To Be Seen
By Eric Best

Hillary Clinton disappeared from one of the most historic scenes in recent American history and most people would not know it happened. (Perhaps more sadly, many might not care.) Please consider:
Editors of the Hasidic weekly Der Tzitung photoshopped the US Secretary of State and another woman out of the scene in which Mrs. Clinton, seated near President Obama, was watching the progress of the assassination of Osama Bin Laden.

This was quickly noticed and reported -- the vanishment of the U.S. Secretary of State, even virtually, being something to note.  Der Tzitung's editors issued an apology and explanation. They meant no disrespect to Mrs. Clinton or the President, they said, but images of women in their publication are expressly forbidden -- to "protect their modesty."

Well now, White House policy expressly forbids the alteration of any official news photo, so the "modesty defense" would appear to fall short here. The editors did not need to run the photo at all -- that would have defended Mrs. Clinton's modesty, if indeed it was threatened.

But to alter the photo and thereby to change the face of history is not fairly an issue of modesty. It is a not-so-subtle repression of women, in another garb. It also has that Orwellian 1984 feel of Newspeak, in which the photos of the news really aren't.

We can all look back to when women were not permitted to vote. Or to garner a fair share of property or wealth gained during marriage. Or to serve in combat military units. Laws have been passed, legal actions brought. Still women fight for equal rights and equal pay for equal work. Arguably they are further ahead in the United States than in much of the rest of the world.

One might argue that this is a tempest in a teapot and we have better things to do than to worry about the photographic exclusion of women -- even as important as Hillary Clinton -- in sectarian weeklies that few see and perhaps more could care less about.

I would contend, however, that this is gender discrimination dressed up as something else. Keeping images of women in the news out of the news implies that women don't make or matter to the news. And that is simply wrong. And I would add that if you address the little things, the big things may begin to take care of themselves. (This was the apparent lesson of subway cleanup efforts in New York City, well described in Malcolm Gladwell's "The Tipping Point," wherein the battle against graffiti and turnstile-jumping began a trend toward a much cleaner and safer underground.)

Maybe the White House feels it has enough on its hands these days not to react to an item like this. Maybe Hillary doesn't mind, and maybe the orthodox Jewish vote matters more. I would hope the White House enforcement arm for accuracy in media (do they have one?) would react to this in some official way, to say hey, you;re not allowed to do that, and we would like a retraction in the form of the accurate photograph published in the same place of prominence as the doctored one.

Oh, and by the way -- there are better ways to respect and protect women's modesty than by distorting their accurate role in history.

Featured Book: The Legend's Son by Willie Backer

The Legend's Son: ...And The Ultra-Competitive World Of Alabama FootballTold in first-person narrative by a social outsider, The Legend’s Son is no doubt the most riveting look at the attitudes and opinions of the Deep South since Gone With The Wind. To Pat Murphy, a northerner, the Deep South was always as foreign and distant a place as some Third World nation on another continent. All he knew about the region was what he had read in history books, studying events like the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement. And that’s all he wanted to know.

But when he unexpectedly finds himself in the Heart of Dixie, he suddenly has to learn all about its customs and traditions. He quickly realizes, in Alabama, the cliché “Football is a way of life” isn’t a cliché at all. He is astounded to the point of being fascinated at just how incredibly stout the spirit and pride is. And he’s absolutely bewildered right from the start. “Like the Martin Sheen character in Apocalypse Now, I was going deeper and deeper into a world I had no idea even existed,” he writes.

He proceeds to go on a rip-roaring adventure, encountering everything from colossal corruption right up to the state capital building to a staggering array of colorful characters Charles Dickens couldn’t make up. Most notably... The Legend’s Son.

About the author:

Guest Post: Dr. Synthia Andrews author of The Path of Energy

Dr. Synthia Andrews, author of the book The Path of Energy, stopped by to share with us a piece she wrote.

Energy Awareness in the Paradigm Shift
By Synthia Andrews, Ph.D

The world is changing. Old forms are being challenged and new directions are needed across all spectrums of life; economically, socially, politically, ecologically and spiritually. When many structures of culture are called to change simultaneously, a paradigm shift is underway; a change in the way we see the world and our place within it. Paradigm shifts can be initiated by scientific discovery, as when we learned that the Earth revolves around the Sun, or when we understood that time is relative. The current shift is caused by an awakening of the human spirit and reflects that the old ways of doing things, the old ways of seeing the world are no longer sustainable.

This shift has been predicted since ancient times by many different cultures and traditions. It is a shift in consciousness, an expanded awareness of reality. If advances in quantum physics are indicators, we are acknowledging that there is no separation between the seen and the unseen domains, between the material world and the here-to-fore hidden forces that guide it. Ultimately, it is an awakening to spiritual reality, although what spiritual reality is must be defined individually. It is up to each person to determine his or her own spiritual source and connection.

Change is never easy and the challenges we face are great. Personal conflict, health issues, financial strain and Earth changes are impacting everyone in one way or another. Not only do we need new ways of looking at reality, we also need new abilities to negotiate the terrain ahead. The change in consciousness is awakening the inner resources we need for the journey. These resources are not new; they have always been there. They are part of the innate energy awareness each of us is equipped with.

Everything we see, feel and hear is a vibration within a sea of energy from which the circumstances and events of life unfold. Einstein’s groundbreaking equation E= MC2 (energy equals matter times the speed of light squared) declares that energy and matter are the same substance separated only by the speed of their movement, or rate of vibration. Energy and matter live in a perpetual dance of transformation; energy entrained in matter, matter released back to energy. As ancient cultures have taught, the world is alive; all parts of it, animate and inanimate. The energy of life has been called life force, or subtle energy, and exists outside the range of our current technology’s ability to measure, as radio waves and microwaves once were. However, subtle energy can be felt and perceived.

The body, both physically and energetically, is the vehicle for our consciousness; the means for us to explore reality. We are wired for the journey. Just as the physical senses are geared to receive information along a range of frequencies, our energy body receives information across the frequencies of subtle energy. The eyes receive information in the spectrum of visible light frequency; ears receive information in the spectrum of audible sound frequency, and the energy body receives information from the spiritual side of reality.

Changes in consciousness occur with a corresponding change in frequency. You may have heard the phrase “time is speeding up.” This is another way of saying that the vibration of the universe is quickening. The result is change; change in our society, our psyches and our bodies. One result of the quickening is that the amount of time between what we think and what our thoughts create is becoming very short, teaching us to discipline our minds and consciously create the world. Another result is that submerged issues that hinder our growth are being brought to the surface requiring that we heal them. It is a challenging time for many.

A change in consciousness also precipitates a change in perceptive ability. The mystics have long held that the universe is made of many dimensions and that we are multi-dimensional beings. Attainment of multi-dimensional awareness is part of the change underway, a concept made more plausible with the advent of quantum physics and the seemingly paranormal nature of subatomic particles.

Right now, inner senses are stirring as people awaken to the energy matrix of life. Perhaps you are having experiences you haven’t had before and don’t completely understand. Do you feel energy moving in your body? Do you know who is on the phone when it rings? Do you think of people only to have them appear around the next corner? Are you seeing lights in the sky and auras around people? Learning how to access energy awareness will help you engage these experiences more fully.

Descriptions of human energy systems are constructs, ways of organizing information to be able to observe patterns. Constructs change as information and awareness changes. The popular construct used presently to describe the human energy system comes from the Vedic tradition of India, brought into Western thought through the Theosophists at the turn of the 20th century. As our consciousness changes and we attain higher levels of awareness, this construct might also change.

Let’s review this system and how it impacts us:

  • There are seven dimensional planes, or levels of reality.
  • Each plane vibrates at a specific rate.
  • The human energy field, called the aura, has seven layers, each vibrating at a different rate.
  • Each dimensional plane corresponds to a layer of the human aura through which the information is received from these planes of reality.
  • The chakras are the interface between the aura and the physical body.
  • Each layer of the aura has a corresponding chakra, or energy center, that takes the information from the aura and steps it down to a lower level where it is fed into the body.
  • The bodymind receives and translates energy information.
  • Subtle energy is received via the aura, metabolized in the chakras and distributed through channels in the body called meridians.
  • The essence of energy awareness means becoming aware of the information the body is receiving from the energy realms and how we are interacting with it.
  • We are sensing energy all the time; it’s just happening below the level of conscious attention.
  • The body tells us about energy information through physical sensations, perceptions, moods, emotions, gut feelings and intuition.
Since each layer of the aura corresponds to a different level or dimension of reality, to experience different dimensions, all we have to do is awaken our inner energy senses. In the past, expanding consciousness was viewed as rising through the chakras from the lower, more physical levels, into the higher, more spiritual levels. Growth was a step-by-step progression with the assumption of a basic duality where spirit is good and material is not. Spiritual growth required transcending the lower physical planes which were considered traps.

However, being truly multi-dimensional is having the ability to encompass and inhabit all levels of reality simultaneously. Rather than trapping us in the material, the body is an anchor for us as spiritual, multi-dimensional beings to interact in the physical plane. We often overlook the gift of a physical body, identifying this plane with pain, suffering and ego. Some seek to escape through ascension into higher consciousness. In truth, we would not be in physical form if it didn’t have meaning and purpose. What if we are not here to escape matter, but to spiritualize matter; to open the doors between the realms, bringing the gifts of each to bear on the other?

Spiritualizing matter is often mischaracterized as bringing spirit into matter. Matter is already imbued with spirit; all life has spirit: human spirit, nature spirits and so on. We can say that matter is the infusion of spirit into form. What is meant by spiritualizing matter is the raising of frequency such that matter loses its hold on our consciousness and we are free to come and go at will.

Paying attention to the body is our first lesson in energy awareness. As we learn to pay attention, we begin to notice that certain sensations correlate to certain changes in our internal energy flow. We notice that when our energy shifts, we are open to experiencing different states of mind and perception. Life flows better and synchronicity increases as life enriching events and situations manifest.

As the shift in consciousness progresses, inner resources are being activated. However, old patterns are also being stimulated and exposed to change. Consequently, people are experiencing many levels of personal challenge, physically and emotionally as well as through intense life challenges. This includes feeling strange sensations in the body: experiencing body jolts, inner vibration and tingling sensations as energy is moving. Many are finding that old, dysfunctional patterns are re-emerging in relationships, creating stress and conflict. Financial struggle and material loss are challenges many are facing.

The list is long, covering a wide range of experiences and as difficult as it is, this is a golden opportunity for growth. It is a call to engage the fullness of yourself and incorporate energy awareness to create new outcomes. We have all the tools necessary. Our bodymind is equipped with everything we need; we simply need to remember how.

Accepting our place as spiritual beings co-creating this reality is the essence of the transformation underway. Activating new energy patterns and shifting awareness allows us to fully participate in the path and purpose of life. As we remember our essence, we will awaken to the realization that humans are magnificent beings with unlimited potential.

In this moment, we are creating the direction of the future. What that direction will be depends on the awareness with which we make our choices. How each of us behaves in the trials of this transition will determine the future we are creating. What we do depends on what we hold precious, what we believe about reality and what we decide to treasure. It is time to clear the past, engage the largest part of who we are and align our actions accordingly.

About the book:

The Path of Energy: Awaken Your Personal Power and Expand Your ConsciousnessAncient wisdom and prophecy predict that this time period is an awakening. Paradigms are shifting, and transformation is at hand as new frequencies stimulate an expansion of consciousness. If advances in quantum physics are indicators, the new paradigm is the reality that there is no separation between the seen and the unseen domains, between the material world and the world of subtle energy. Conscious interaction in the realm of subtle energy is part of the personal and planetary transformation taking place. The human body is wired to navigate this terrain. Aligning to higher frequency is complex and many people are feeling both challenging and uplifting signs and symptoms.

This book explores basic principles in consciousness, the energy basis of life, energy anatomy and our links to multidimensionality, how our bodies are receiving higher frequency, and the signs, symptoms, sensations and personal experiences of expansion.

Guest Post: Nick Redfern author of The Real Men in Black

Nick Redfern, author of the book The Real Men in Black, stopped by to share with us a piece he wrote.

Beware of the Real Men in Black
by Nick Redfern

For decades - or perhaps even for centuries, some firmly believe - the infamous Men in Black have been elusive, predatory, fear-inducing figures that have hovered with disturbing regularity upon the enigmatic fringes of the subject of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs), coldly nurturing, and carefully weaving, their very own unique brand of horror and intimidation of a definitively other-world variety.

The preferred tools of terror of the MIB are outright menace, far less than thinly-veiled threats, and overwhelming, emotionless intimidation. And they are relentless when it comes to following their one and only agenda - that is, to forever silence witnesses to, and investigators of, UFO encounters. Unfortunately, it has to be admitted, they have been highly successful in achieving their unsettling goal, too. Indeed, and without any shadow of doubt whatsoever, the long and winding history of UFO studies is absolutely littered with fraught, frightened and emotionally-shattered figures that have been forever menaced into silence by the Men in Black, and who, as a result, have firmly distanced themselves from the UFO controversy, vowing never, ever to return to the fold.

Like true vampires from some strange, outer edge, the painfully-thin, white-faced and sunken-cheeked Men in Black appear from the murky darkness; they then roam the countryside provoking carnage, chaos, paranoia and fear in their notorious wake, before duly returning to that same shrouded realm of unsettling weirdness from which they originally oozed forth.

Very often reported traveling in groups of three, this definitive trinity of evil seemingly has the incredible ability to appear and vanish at will, and is often seen – in the United States - driving 1950s-style black Cadillac’s, and - in the British Isles - 1960s-era black Jaguar’s, both of which are almost always described as looking curiously brand new.

Despite the passing of the decades, and of the many and varied changes in fashions, the preferred mode of dress of these bone-chilling characters never, ever alters in the slightest, at all: it always consists of a well-preserved black suit, a black Fedora- or Homburg-style hat, black sunglasses, a black necktie, black socks and shoes, and a crisp, shining white shirt. Very little wonder, therefore, that they have been given the wholly notorious name with which they are, today, most famously – or perhaps infamously - associated.

But who, or far more likely, what, exactly, are the Men in Black? In the 1997 blockbuster movie, Men in Black and in its 2002 sequel, that starred Hollywood crowd-pullers Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, the MIB were firmly, and highly entertainingly, portrayed as being the secret-agents of a Top Secret, covert arm of the U.S. Government, whose sole role it is to hide from the general public the dark truth about a huge and intricate alien presence on the Earth. But, how much truth is there to the mega-bucks movie that spawned so much interest in these bizarre figures?

While some MIB are, without doubt, the all-seeing eyes of clandestine departments of at least several governments – including both the United States and the United Kingdom - the vast majority of these curious characters appear to be of a very different breed altogether. According to numerous, fantastic witness testimony and countless case-studies secured since the early years of the 1950s, the real MIB may very possibly be alien entities themselves, carefully and secretly working to ensure that we never successfully uncover the sensational truth about their presence, or the long-term goal of their strange and unearthly agenda, upon our very own planet.

On the other hand, however, some students of MIB history, lore and legend suggest that these non-human creatures are utterly occult-based, supernatural beings that originate in, inhabit, and with disturbing regularity surface from, strange and enigmatic netherworlds very different to that of our own, personal 3-D reality. On a very similar path, a variety of individuals suspect strongly that the real Men in Black are nothing less than definitive demons – the literal, deceptive minions of none other than the lord of the underworld: Satan himself. The intriguing fact that many of those that have been cursed by visits from the Men in Black have dabbled in occultism, with Ouija-Boards, and in devil-worship, is perceived as further evidence by some that the MIB may have origins that are far, far removed from the enigma-filled world of outer-space and highly-advanced extraterrestrials from the stars.

Meanwhile, there are those investigators of the UFO phenomenon who have put forth a truly fascinating, unique and near-revolutionary theory that has nothing whatsoever to do with aliens, flying saucers, or even the realm of the occult. It is a definitively jaw-dropping theory that posits the Men in Black may, incredibly, be time-travelers from humankind’s far-flung future. Their role, it has been suggested, may be to ensure that we remain forever in the dark about the shocking facts of what is really afoot: namely, that our “aliens” are actually us, albeit from a time centuries, or even thousands of years, from now.

Whatever their point – or points – of origin, however, there is one thing that we can say with complete confidence and certainty about the Men in Black: they are, most assuredly, amongst us, and there is absolutely nothing positive, warm or welcoming about their presence at all.

And, if your personal, particular areas of fascination are those relative to such conundrums as Flying Saucers, alien abductions, close encounters, the Roswell UFO crash of 1947, Area 51, UFOs, and a myriad of other, attendant puzzles, then that trio of mysterious, black-garbed men may very well one day be paying you a visit, too.

If, late on some dark, thunderous and chilled night, you are awoken from an uneasy slumber by a slow, deliberate and pounding knocking on your front-door, no matter how tempted you may be, do not open it – that is, unless you wish to disastrously allow into your life one of the most terrifying, soulless and definitively macabre creatures that has ever been unleashed upon us, the Human Race. Remember you have been duly warned. Beware, always, of the real Men in Black…

About the book:

The Real Men In Black: Evidence, Famous Cases, and True Stories of These Mysterious Men and their Connection to UFO PhenomenaThe Men in Black were elevated to superstar status in 1997 in the hit movie of the same name. Although the Hollywood blockbuster was fiction, the real Men in Black have consistently attempted to silence the witnesses of UFO and paranormal phenomena since the 1950s.

In The Real Men in Black, author Nick Redfern delves deep into the mysterious world of these mysterious operatives. He reveals their origins and discusses classic cases, previously unknown reports, secret government files, and the many theories that have been presented to explain the mystery.

Highlights of The Real Men in Black include:

• The story of Albert Bender, the first man to claim an encounter with the Men in Black
• The involvement of the MIB in the Mothman saga that dominated the town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia in the 1960s

• Exclusive interviews with leading researchers of the MIB phenomenon
