Author Interview: Matthew C. Martino author of Lets Fly

Matthew C. Martino, author of the book Lets Fly, stopped by for an interview.

Welcome!  Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Well where can I start, I’m Matthew Martino. 21 years of age originally from Zimbabwe. I’m an author and film producer currently living in London.

What do you do when you're not writing?

When I’m not writing I produce films and I also run my businesses. I run an aviation consultancy firm ‘Lets Fly Academy’ which provides information for aspiring pilots so that keeps me busy as I’m quite hands on with it.

When did your first start writing?

I first started writing in 2011, I had just began acting and was doing extra work and I wrote some sample film scenes then finally leading to my first script. I then got writing Lets Fly my pilot manual in 2012 and this involved loads of research but I enjoyed it.

Is there any particular author or book that influenced you in any way either growing up or as an adult?

Yes, Alan Sugar’s books have been a huge influence for me; The Way I See It in particular is very motivating and gives some very useful tips.

What inspired you to write this particular book?

Lets Fly was inspired by my love for flying, I had experienced a lot of difficulties and wanted to warn other aspiring pilots of them, I had also had many myths about pilots out there and wanted to address them.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?

My favourite part of Lets Fly was the book I talk about Radiotelephony, It took me about six months to be comfortable using the phonetic signalling so I enjoyed writing it as I was able to put a lot of pointers and information in that chapter.

What is best writing advice you can give?

I would advise writers to always have an outline of where they want their book to go, be it fiction or non-fiction. A plan of chapters and a rough skeleton saves you from heading the wrong direction halfway through a book.

Is there anything else you'd like your readers to know about the book?

Lets Fly is a fantastic read and I think any aspiring pilot or aviation enthusiast would benefit from it. I wrote the book in very simple terms to make sure that everyone can understand it so I hope you enjoy.

Ever wonder what makes an aircraft or helicopter fly? The answers are right here.

Matthew takes you from the ancient dream to modern-day reality and explains how each of these marvelous inventions work.

You will not only understand the deep satisfaction that pilots get from commanding an aircraft in flight, but you will get an idea on the inevitable risks involved.

No matter what it is that fascinates you about flying – its promise of freedom, its beauty, its precision and science, or the prospect of adventure – you’ll find it all waiting for you in this book.
