Review: Barn Weddings by Maggie Lord

Ideas, advice, and how-to for one of the hottest wedding styles

A barn is a magical place for a wedding. Steeped in history and evoking the simplicity of a place that time has forgotten, the classic American barn has been an irresistible subject for artists, poets, and city folk alike. In Barn Weddings, Maggie Lord offers ideas and advice on how to create a barn wedding, including information on the different styles and décor as well as tips from the pros for making the day a special one to remember. Part indoor, part outdoor, but all beauty, history and romance, barn weddings are as practical as they are rife with opportunity for charm and creativity.

Maggie Lord, a self-confessed wedding junkie since the age of thirteen, loves the romance and beauty of weddings. Passionate about rustic style and eager to share her discoveries and ideas while planning her own wedding, she started RusticWeddingChic.com, which serves as a daily muse for brides, couples and wedding enthusiasts, offering an online venue for idea gathering and inspiration. Lord lives in Connecticut with her husband, Jon, and their young son, Jack.

While a wedding in a barn may bring to mind images of a no frills, budget ceremony and reception this book will change your mind.  Barn weddings are no longer for folks who actually live on farms, yuppies are paying big bucks to have that rustic feel for their weddings.

The ideas presented in this book can be DIY if you are so inclined but many just have that rustic look while toting a rather hefty price tag.  The simplicity shown is not really that easy to achieve in real life without a team of people making it happen - think Martha Stewart doing a barn wedding.

The book is beautifully photographed and many, many ideas are presented which should leave any reader with a list of things they may want to incorporate in their own ceremony and reception.

If you are looking for the country feel of a barn wedding without any actual contact with animals or farm life then this the book for you.
