Review: Shieldwolf Dawning by Selena Nemorin

For 13-year-old Samarra, life behind the sheltering walls of the planet Gaia is stifling.

But when she convinces her brother, Cassian, to run away to another world, everything they know is turned upside-down.

Forced to join the Shieldwolves, an order of shamans, brother and sister find themselves in the middle of an escalating war between two magic factions.

Received for review.

This was such an interesting and complex read. On the surface it seems like it is going to be just another run of the mill pre-teen fantasy novel but as you read you realize that it is so much more than that. This is actually quite a complex and deep story about how our choices change us and those around us. Of course, you can read it as just a nice fantasy novel and thoroughly enjoy it, but if you engage with the story and the characters it becomes an emotional journey that leaves you deeply satisfied at the end.

The story has a distinct Lord of the Rings feel to it with a magical world complete with dragons and many difficult decisions to be made, but it combines that with modern technology for a completely different twist.

Samarra and her brother are genuinely likable characters who you can really connect with which makes the story quite enjoyable.

This tale of fantasy and adventure is is a lovely read for all ages and I certainly recommend it!

★★★★ = Really Liked It
